Apple Pie granola

written by Siobhan Bowser

Hi y’all! It’s fall which means it time to cook with seasonal vegetables like pumpkins, apples, squash and more!

Cooking with seasonal and local vegetables is great for so many reasons. It can help save you money because the produce does not need to be imported from areas where that produce is in season or it does not need to be artificially ripened. Seasonal and local produce is also fresher which is good for taste and our health. When produce is fresh and at its ripest it is at its highest nutrient content! It is highest in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. When you buy local you can also find out more about where your produce is coming from and if they are using things like pesticides, herbicides and fungicides.

Here you can find a recipe for Apple Pie Granola that is so good it will make you think that you’re eating apple crisp, but guess what… its made with simple and healthful ingredients! It’s perfect to have as a snack on the go or serve with yogurt, milk, more fruit and more.

Its packed with whole grains, multiple healthy fats, and fresh fruit. Whole grains are great for us because they provide us with fiber, vitamins and minerals. They are best known for managing cholesterol levels and blood pressure. Chia, hemp and pumpkin seeds are great sources of unsaturated fats which are also known for controlling cholesterol levels, decreasing inflammation, and stabelizing heart rhythms.
